First flight on 28 Nieuport Made good landing

Tuesday, May 14, 1918

My tour of duty as O.D ended at 10 o'clock. No new O.D. turned up so I pulled off a Guard Mount with the Old Serghof the guard. Did some pistol shooting with MacA. Had my first flight in a 28 this afternoon. Reported to Lt. Pruden to take charge of the invoicing of boxes containing spares for the Monosoupape engines After dinner (some meal) I took pictures of crash and Abbé Aubois from Epiez. Followed little path thru wood down to St. Anne's Chapel and the shrine by the brook. Beautiful to see spring coming on Picked a few Lillies of the valley Shall send them to Mrs. A. L. Palmer. Had wrist watch issued

[] As I stood out in the little wood I prayed to Jesus for strength as did Washington at Valley Forge. []

Last night Prinz, Plyler, Martin, Roberts and Ordway arrived also Prinz.

Have a job today. Lt Pruden put me incharge of the Monosoupape Spares which I am responsible for. I must check over and see that the six boxes of them contain just what the French bill of lading says. Then divide in three and issue to Flights.

Martin tipped over the only working buss in C Flight Longerons smashed. Its a washout. Major Lore fired beaucoup rounds with pistols. Finished my job with Engine Spares. Recieved my Issue Pistol.

Kicked a football around with Hudson & MacArthur this evening. Nice clear day Letters from Chappie & Maria M.

Transcription Notes:
double spacing between sentences seems rather old school? thoughts? Did you mean "between paragraphs?" Old school, yes, but agree it improves readability. Although not mentioned in current instructions, in the past transcribers were asked to separate paragraphs with a double space to improve readability. Readability is everything, here. A double space between paragraphs is good, not between sentences. What is the correct spelling of the engine - Monosonpape? or Monosupape? mandc: Monosoupape https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/gnome-monosoupape-type-n-rotary-9-engine Soupape is French for valve, so monosoupape would be single valve. Miller is challenged by spelling, but this time he gets it right!
