SEPTEMBER 23

I got up at 5:00 A.M. and then packed and loaded the trucks. We had chow at one of the mess halls. It was the best chow I have had in the Army so far. We pulled out about 7:00. Again we run back and forth keeping everybody in the Convoy. Our lives were endangered every minute of the day. From Md we went to D.C. where we passed through the Capitol. We took Lt. Clark around the City on a sight seeing tour. It was a big moment in my life when I saw the Capitol, Whitehouse and Wash. monument. It was grand. From D.C. we [[?]] Va and on to Camp Lee where we slept under the stars. We washed the truck and washed ourselves out of a canteen. I got to bed about 10:30P.M.
God! It was cold during the night and everything was damp from the dew in the morning.
