WELLMAN POLAR EXPEDITION
to take care of it. I have asked him to me Mr. Eckels $25 a week for this purpose. It is [[strikethrough]] twice as much as [[/strikethrough]] more than is necessary, but the accumulating balance will be a good thing. So if you have anything to say about it, remember that the amount is $100 a month.

This $72.90 per month is a debt of honor & must be met. The families of the men depend upon it for their living. I hope after two or three months you will see Mr. Eckels & learn if it is being attended to. It must be in some way or other. The money I still have with Mr. Aagaard will pay it for three months, & then it must come from America. 

I have advanced the men 2400 krones on their wages, but that comes out of the money due them at the end, not out of the monthly payments to their families. It is a shame that
