I have been compelled to economize & shift in all these ways, but I could not help it. The wonder is I raised as much money as I did. You never will know the hard work, the ingenuity, the tact & skill required to do it.

None of the Americans gets any salary. The contacts with Mr. Baldwin & Mr. Hofma are in my trunk, left with Mr. Aaquand. Each is entitled to a share of the profits. There is a contract with Dr. Hofma, too, but he gets no share of the profits, where I choose to give him something. My private watch is in my trunk at Cranso. Mr. Aagaard has the key to it.

There are all the business affairs I can think of at the present moment. I will write you a P.S. at archangel & again before I lean the ship at F.J. hand.

Sunday, July 3d. archangel

Dear brother: No mail here from Laura or anybody else. Not a single letter from anybody. Not one of my girls has taken the trouble to send me a letter here, though I am sure they would do it but for their mother's influence. Well, it is a selfish world. I have been selfish in a way—now it is her time.

We have taken on lumber to build a house with. Our dogs are pretty good—83 of them. I have paid everything in archangel and have about $250 or $300 left. I shall send it to hauso, to be there when I get back.

Enclosed you will find a full statement of my life insurance, although I think I have given you all the facts before.

So far as I know there is nothing to add. I have told you everything. Again I want to thank
