Camp Wellman, Aug 10 1909
My dear brother, Arthur Wellman:
As soon as I leave in the "America" you are of course in charge of the Camp, - men & materials, and the "Arctic."

The ship is to cruise for 10 days after our start along the pack ice, between 10° & 15° E of Greenwich, maintaining constant lookout for us. Two of our best were to be selected by you, are to go with you to make sure the watch is kept.

"Arctic" is not to leave here before midday, Sept. 7th, and I hope you will decide to wait a few days longer.

On leaving for home, take with you item for ballast, empty barrels, most of the acid left over, the permanganate of lime (in small, square wooden boxes), the bands of permanganate of potash, and most of the gasoline remaining.

The tools, etc., should be left here, and be put in good order before you go-oiled or greased.

Acid, gasoline & perm. potash were bought at Reher & Ramsden, Hamburg, the acid at 9.70 marks per 200 Kg (barrels included), the cost of the perm potash was 520 Francs, & the [[strikethrough]] perm [[/strikethrough]] gasoline is worth the asked
