Saturday June 12th 1909.

Sun shines, wind moderated and motor started at 9.30. Wind N. to S. after trying all day to get to Danes Gate and prevented by Ice at 6 P.M. decided to pull in near Island and waite developments for an opening. Discouraging but best can do.  thousands of acres of Ice off Danes Gate, estimated by men & pilot at 60 mi of solid pack of Ice. 12N sun due N + a beautiful night sea like glass.  The boys 6 of them took the Truscott & guns for a hunt. [[underscore]]23 Ducks.[[/underscore]]  Wind N. but very light- good night, [[underscore]]Waiting for an opening into Danes Gate.[[/underscore]]

Sunday June 13th
Yet waiting at north end of F[[rest is faded]] Islands for opening in Ice to enter Danes Gate.  9PM wind from S.W. about 5 mi strong. Men procured fresh Ice.
