SANTA MONICA, Aug. 15.- Everything is in readiness today for the influx of California's aviation-minded spectators who will attend by the thousands the first women's air race ever held on the west coast, which starts here tomorrow at 11 a. m.
While the original field of 15 of the more prominent women flyers of the Coast has not been increased, that many will be on the starting line tomorrow when Charles Lienesch, manager of the aviation department of a large oil company and vice chairman of the national air races committee, drops the starter flag. At that time 15 planes, representing a cross-section of the aviation styles of the nation, will zoom up and on to Santa Ana, the first stop in the Tom Thumb derby.
AT CONTROL POINTS
The flyers will remain at the control-point cities for 30 minutes before resuming the race back to Clover Field, where thousands will be waiting.
The aviatrices return to Clover Field from Santa Paula, the last control point. They are expected to arrive around 2:30 p. m. in time to participate in the second and third closed course races. The first race will start at 1 p. m. and is open to beginners only. Nine or more women pilots will start this event. This event is for planes capable of 100 miles per hour or less, and will be raced around a five-mile closed and a triangular course.
