Babe Walker Delays Opening Chute, Wins Air Race Chance

FALLING several thousand feet in imitation of a comet, at municipal airport late Sunday, Mrs. Babe Smith Walker, Akron's daring parachutist, probably won a place on the National Air Race program at Cleveland for herself and her pilot.

"Very good," commented Phil Henderson, representative of the air race management, as her watched the breath taking stunt. Approximately 4,000 enthusiastic spectators helped him "judge" the act, Airport Manager B. E. Fulton estimat-

"There she goes," the shout went up as a tiny speck was seen separating itself from the plane flying nearly two miles above the port.

A moment later a trail of flour swirled above the falling form. Down, down she plunged. Suddenly her 'chute billowed above her, checking her rapid descent. Henderson indicated he'd talk terms with the aviatrices some time this week. Efforts will be made to line up a glider stunting act as another feature of the race program.
