Dear Mr. Carvale:

There are a great many questions that we shall have to discuss in a little while; when more activities will have been resumed in Paris.

However if I am writing to you today it is on account of the "Balzac" bronze by Rodin, remembering that when I had the pleasure of seeing you in Paris you asked me whether you were free to take other steps in connection with it, to which I answered that of course you were.

Thus, my letter is to inquire whether this bronze is still available.

Namely, the following has just happened, which is that talking to one of my colleagues who is particularly interested in sculpture and having asked me if I had heard of anything of especial interest I posted him about the "Balzac" Rodin, which he would like to by in participation with me. That is, he and I each would own a half interest. Should this deal go through you will understand that the proposal I made originally of one-quarter interest would of course remain, except that it would then only apply to my one-half share.

The original difficulty of who would export the bronze would still exist I assume, but I told my colleague that should the bronze still be available I would give him the necessary data and it would be up to him to handle this matter. As his shipper in Paris happens to be Mr. Lefebvre-Foinet it would of course simplify matters.

Looking forward to hearing from you and hoping this letter will find you after a restful and interesting vacation,

with personal regards,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligman)
