Sir,
The petition of the undersigned W.C. King of the Town of Beaufort in the State of N.C. respectfully represent, that he is the owner in fee simple of a certain peice of land with all the improvements thereon lying and being near the Eastern line of the Town of Beaufort as more fully described, in the accompanying Copy of the deed executed to him by F.L. King which said Peice or parcel of land, containing, a half acre with the improvements is now in possession of the Freedmens Bureau. The petitioner further sheweth that he has taken and subscribed the Amnesty Oath which is hereto appended and that he is not within any of the classes of persons excepted in the Amnesty Proclamation of his Excellency

Respectfully returned, I have carefully investigated this case and I find that the statement [[insertion]] made by "Alvina" [[/insertion]] is not true in any particular Dr. Ebum made no such agreement as stated; the Agreement made by Dr. Ebum was as follows, "That he would support "Alvina" and her five children, for four days labor per week, giving "Alvina" and her husband "Wilson" Fridays and Saturdays, to cultivate land for themselves "he furnishing the land and also a team and feeding the team." I also found that "Alvina" left Dr. Ebum of her own accord, and that she sold about 7 barrels of corn just before she left. He wanted her to remain if she would work for him Dr. Ebum has the reputation of being a very good master, he has with him now, a Colored
