[[footnote 2]] Respectfully returned to Capt. Dillon - Col. Whittleseys instructions are that abandoned plantations shall be so far as practicable leased to freedmen this year. Under the circumstances, it is not desirable to renew the lease. We want a farm for a Poor house &c. How would this place answer.

Special Orders,
No. 24  "Extract"
III   In accordance with instructions from Maj. Gen'l. O.O. Howard Commissioner Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, dated Washington Sept 12th 1865 the following described property, so far as the jurisdiction of this Bureau extends, will be restored to W.C. King who claims to be the legal owner thereof, at such time as the Lease under which the said property is now held shall expire and on Condition that the Refugees, now occupying it shall be provided for: One Lot with improvements near the east line of the town of Beaufort N.C.

Nothing in this order is to be construed as giving any claims upon the Gov't for Rents of Damages.

No 24  Extract
II  In accordance with instructions from Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard, Commissioner Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Land, dated Washington, September 12th 1865, the following described property, so far as the jurisdiction of the Bureau extends, will be restored to - F.L. King who claims to the the legal owner thereof, at such time as th lease under which the said property is not held shall expire. Lot No. 249, South Side of Front St. Beaufort N.C.

Nothing in this order is to be construed as giving any claim upon the Government for Rents or Damages.
