whist out looking after his hogs, he heard the report of a gun in the direction of where his hogs came. he went back in the direction of Nathan Whites "freedmans house and found Nathan White with his knee on his Sabertons hog. He then caught hold of White saying I have the thief who killed and attempted to steal my hog. White then attempted to strike me with his gun. Seeing some Colored men and woman, I ran towards Newport, for assistance White at the same time running in an other direction when I came back to where the hog was it was gone
