Sir
I have the honor to report that in obedience to your order I went to Morehead City for the purpose of taking possession of the long building 44 x 103 feet, but on examination I find that it cannot be put in a proper condition for a Hospital without at least the expence of one hundred dollars. And as the Qr. Master informs me that he has no lumber, in his charge I do not know how the building can be used for the purposes above stated. Again Captain Dillon Asst. Supt. of this Sub. District informs me that the boat which belongs to the Bureau Cannot be used to transport the sick &.c. with these obstructions in the way. I would eather continue on in the same manner as now than try to give satisfaction under existing Circumstances. I have had a Carpenter to estimate expence of removing the large building to Beaufort and erecting it in proper form. There will be enough material to make Kitchen [[room?]] for patients stores and quarters for nurses - This can be done for $250. and in my opinion it will

cost the Government less in the end, and be of more service to the Bureau that any other change that could be made. The building in which the stores are now kept will be sold at Auction on the 7th of July next then I shall be oblidged to have some place which will be secure to put them in. If they were removed to Morehead, a part of them will be required at Beaufort, for there are three times as many dependents in Beaufort than in Morehead. So it would require a reliable nurse to take charge of them, at each place in order to make them secure, but as I have not authority to act without your approval, I respectfully submit this for your Consideration.

Very Respectfully
Your Obdt. Servt.
