Respectfully returned to Capt. Dillon Asst. Supt, &c for any demand for damages, sustained through breach of Contract or assault and battery. The Courts of Justice are open to the aggrieved party. He has the same privilege with a white man of bringing his suit. This is a right always enjoyed by free persons of Color in N. Carolina

For the offense against the peace of the State in this

assault &c I will bring it to the attention of the Grand Jury at the next terms of the Court, the 1st Monday in Sept.

The matter brought to the attention of the Civil Authorities in either way will be acted on, and impartial Justice administered
