I would respectfully ask for the restoration of a parcel or tract of land situated lying and being in Carteret County State of North Carolina a description of which land may be seen by reference to the accompanying Copy of two deeds of bargain sale Made by Mary B. Thomas & M.C. Thomas. the land is now in possession of the Freedmens Bureau and I have not troubled heretofore to make application for the same as I am not residing here but in New Berne and for other reasons. I enclose Copy of Amnesty Oath taken to day. I have taken this Oath [[nevermore??]] heretofore the late Provincial Governor W.W. Holden of N.C. when I entered upon the duties of Provisional Secretary of State for North Carolina now in May 1865. The certificates I presume has been lost. I am

not included within any of the exceptions of the amnesty proclamation of the president.

I have the honor to inform you that the lime which was ordered on My Requisition dated Dec 14th 1866 for 5 Brls of stone lime has not been received. Please inform me what course I shall take to obtain the same as the lime is much needed to whiten the walls of the Hospital at Morehead City.
