Dear Sir

Not knowing your name I have addressed you in this manner as the Commandant of the nearest post to obtain of you the necessary information necessary on a point now before me as Mayor of Newport

I have had a man summoned to appear before me on Saturday [[nigh?]] 28th inst. to answer for threats made, in a riotous conduct against the Police authorities of the town He promises to attend trial next Saturday but swears he will abide by no decision made by the present Mayor and Board of Commissioners and that he intends to appeal to Genl Sickels

As he has declared in advance his intentions I should be glad to present the case made out in
