due form, and supposing you would be likely to know the necessary steps I desire of you the necessary information. How would it do for you or some other Officer under you to be present and jointly with the Mayor direct the trial and see that the defendant is fairly dealth with and that the Minutes of the trial are fairly drawn up. The defendant is a white Citizen and a property holder of this Town If he persists in a headstrong course it may be necessary to ask for Military assistance of your Post. I think however that the presence of an Officer next Saturday would do much toward quieting his feelings and render important aid in directing the trial properly. Let me hear from you as early as possible and give me such advice as you think necessary

I have the honor to respectfully submit a case relative to my property for your consideration "Viz"

My Hotel situation in the Town of Beaufort NC was taken possession of by the United States Authorities for an hospital whilst so occupied the furniture of the Hotel was taken possession of by Various parties of this town and appropriated to their personal use, and still continue to use it. 

Other portions of it was taken by Officers of the United States and when being releived or mustered out of service sold it at auction for their personal interest

This furniture was never sold by Order of the United States Government nor the money converted to its use 

I therefore and respectfully and humbly pray that you give me an Order to take my furniture where I find it the parties holding it doing so unlawfully.

The Hotel and other buildings was restored to me by Special Order No 74 dated Hd Qrs Asst Commr Raleigh NC
