Brooklyn N.Y. February 12th 1868

To Bvt Maj S. N. Clark
A.A.I. Genl Bureau R. F & A.L.

Sir
Yours returning my imperfect report sent on the 4th inst and the order of the Asst commissioner calling for a [[underlined]] "full, explicit, and immediate [[/underlined]] report" was received on the 10th inst at 7.O.clock P.M. to late to be carried out that day

In obedience thereto I immediately proceeded to Fordham on the 11 inst without delay and arrived thier at midday.

Here I called on Mr Abram Berrian the Post-Master at Fordham and enquired if there was a Mr Chas Baker living at Fordham he answered no that he did not know of any having lived there within a year but that I might call on Alfred Baker and Stuart Baker who were living in the vicinity and perhaps I might gain the information I desired

I then proceeded to Alfred Bakers House who is a Soda manufacturer in New York City and saw his wife who told me a number of parties enquired to her house before for one Chas Baker and she understood that he lived in the vicinity of Mr Briggs and presumed the Briggs family could give me some information about him

On my way to Mr Peter Briggs I stopped at a Mr Harveys on Marion Avene and saw Angeline his wife she said that she knew one Chas Bake a son of Stuart Baker before mentioned by me but he was a painter by trade & stated he was not the one she also stated she had lived in Fordham about 15 years, & knew no other.
