Articles of Agreement made and entered into this eleventh day of April A.D. 1868, between Brvt Major J.M. Brown, Disbursing Officer Bureau Refugees Freedmen and A Land, of the one part, and A Gleason of Washington City District of Columbia of the other part

This agreement witnesseth That the said Brvt. Major J.M. Brown D.O. for and on behalf of the United States of America, and the said A. Gleason, his heirs, executors, and administrators, have covenanted and agreed and by these presents do mutually covenant and agree to and with each other as follows namely:-

First . . . . That the said A Gleason, his heirs, executors, and administrators shall load and transport from the Sand Bank [[strikethrough]] at Barry Farm near Uniontown D.C. [[/strikethrough]] ^[[on Effingham Place near Howard University D.C.]], to square No 1054. "Capital Hill' Washington D.C. and unload, all the sand required in the construction of the tenement houses, now being erected by the Bureau R.F.A.L on said square (1054) - If required by said Brvt Major J.M. Brown, D.O. one thousand (1000) bushels shall be delivered in any one week.

Second . . . . None but good building sand suitable for plastering shall be loaded and transported.

Third . . . . . In consideration whereof the said A. Gleason shall receive the sum of ($7.75) seven dollars and seventy five cents for every one hundred (100) bushels of sand delivered as above, the amount delivered to be ascertained from the
