Knew Bond, he lived within a mile of her, traded at her store, owed her nothing, always paid in cash for what he got. Wednesday, he brought her this horse — price, $35. She wanted to keep him on trial & consult her son. B- gave permission. Thursday morning, she decided to take the horse & pay $35, left the money with her daughter, who paid to Bond. Put the horse in the wagon Wednesday & Thursday, & he was identified by Arnold. She went with him to Bond. Arnold arrested him, & he paid her back $30, he had spent the rest. He acted fair — said he had traded for the horse near Fort Baker on Tuesday. Had known him for a year & never heard anything against him. He always owned & bought & sold horses.

White  — Fairall sworn — lives below Piscataway. on Jany 27. Monday, he was in Piscataway, & saw a colored man in the store buying crackers & cheese, — heard him say, he was from Charles Co — never saw him before — don't know his name — never saw the man afterwards till today — Recognizes the prisoner as the man — never saw him only that one time, until he sees him in the prisoners box.
