To the Postmaster.
Mystic River,
New London Conn't

Sir: - The friends of a colored girl named Kitty Brooks aged about 9 or 10 years, placed her, some months since, in the family of a Mr. Baker, who lived at Fordham N.Y. Since then he has moved to Connecticut & information received here indicates that he may possibly be living at Mystic River. Nothing has been heard from him for some time & the mother of the girl is extremely anxious to ascertain her whereabouts. I have been instructed to write you & request that you will make such enquires as may be necessary to ascertain whether a Mr. Baker(with a colored girl in his family) resides in your town, or if not convenient for you to do so, that you will hand this letter to some one interested in the freed people who may be able to gain the necessary information. By attending to this & forwarding the result of your enquiries to this Bureau you will receive the gratitude of an afflicted mother & greatly oblige,
Yours Respectfully,
