it looked so much like the dolomites and, w.[[with]] my v.]]very]] dark glasses, I was afraid the crust was black varnish. Contaminated anyway, I picked it up -- looked around for more -- & carried it off. Hand lens showed crust vesicular. Dean & Shinaishi far ahead so I carried it to our lunch spot where we decided a meteorite. A meteorite in a moraine! Very unlikely find especially since it was nearly buried & exposed face was ~featureless. For lunching Shinaisi found a scooped ice trough behind a large boulder & propped a yellow nylon tent over us as we sat. Wind continuous - tent rustling & flapping.

After lunch Dean disc a chip of fusion crust on snow - properly photog. & collected. For sev. [[several]] hrs we continued searching moraine & finally climbed a long way back to our cache of gear. Dean & I stayed close: Shinaishi went over slope to look some more. Finally Dean heard helicopter sounds away off and called it by our little radio. It came in & circled low for Shinaishi at which he lept into the air having discov. a magnificent stone w [[with]] fus. crust. Nearby a second piece. I did not get to see them because of logistics. The helo [[helicopter]] stopped at our cache & had to take at least 1 passenger to McMurdo -- a hasty consultation resolved that Dean & Shinaishi would stay & orient-photog, & collect meteorites, I would ride in, then helo would go out for Denton's party of 4, back to our two & home w. six (max load).

I had dinner long before they arrived. Meanwhile Ed Zellun & I photog my meteorite & left it in snow - it still had snow on it when I brought it in. However, many rx in field had water-wet surfaces & icicles facing on sun side (S) in PM. Photog. one. In evening a Greenlee ^[[ski]] craft ar from McMurdo to bring parts for damaged helicopter. It was a training flight & so would not take passengers back -- much to Zeller's disgust. However it did take mail & cargo. After it took off discov.[[discovery]]was made it brought the wrong "elevator"
