Preparation of a wage scale for workmen employed by firms awarded public works contracts, in keeping with recently enacted legislation, was ordered yesterday by the Board of Supervisors.
Beginning August 14, the law becomes effective, together with a companion bill which prohibits the employment of alien labor on public works.

Baby Poisoning Attempt Charged

For weeks, Arnold Arris, unemployed Hindu bacteriologist, carried a vial of poison in his pocked, frequently threatening to take his own life if his financial condition did not improve.
Early yesterday, according to his wife, he attempted to administer the poison to their 4-month-old child at their home, 451 1/2 Solano street. Mrs. Arris seized the baby and ran into the street.
