THE EVENING TRIBUNE, HORNELL, N.Y., WEDNESDAY, AUG

Local Woman Will Be Honored At Aircraft Show

Mrs. Blanche Scott of Hornell has accepted an invitation from Governor Frank J. Lausche of Ohio Sesquicentennial National Aircraft Show to be held in Dayton Sept. 5, 6 and 7.

With other pioneers in the aviation field, Mrs. Scott is to be honored by the governor at public ceremonies during the show.

Known professionally as "Roberta" on her women's program over Radio Station WLEA in Hornell, Mrs. Scott was the first American woman to pilot an airplane; the first woman to make a long distance flight; the first woman passenger in an Army jet plane, and the first woman to drive an automobile across the United States. She was taught to fly by Glenn H. Curtis at Hammondsport.

She is a member of the Board of Directors of "The Early Birds", an organization of persons who made their first flights before 1916.

The observance in Dayton will mark 50 years of powered flight. The show is sponsored by the Aviation Industry, U. S. Defense Department and the Armed Services. It will include aerial demonstrations by the Army in the nation's latest fighting craft.
