Plan Curtiss Memorial
Early Birds Eye Marker

HORNELL — The Early Birds, an organization of pioneer aviators, are contemplating a memorial recognition of Glenn Hammond Curtiss at Hammondsport.

Curtiss was considered one of the most progressive of the pioneers in aviation. Many of his patents still are in use on today's planes.
His contributions to the succesful [[sic]] progress of aviation are imposible [[sic]] to evaluate.

At the recent annual reunion of the Early Birds at July 4 air races at Pittsburgh, Blanche Stuart Scott of Canisteo, a member of the organization, was appointed chairman of a committee to investigate the possibility of such a memorial, which is expected to be erected in the very near future.

Mrs. Scott, the first woman pilot in the U.S., learned to fly at Hammondsport and was the only woman student ever personally instructed by Curtiss. She flew throughout the United States with the famous Curtiss flying crew.

The nature of the memorial has not yet been determined but Mrs. Scott expects to contact the citizens of Hammondsport to learn their wishes. The Early Birds would like to contribute a memorial that would do justice to one of the great men of the aviation age.
