Historians Jamboree In Vine City Saturday

HAMMONDSPORT —— Almost 400 reservations have already been made for the Genesee Valley Jamboree scheduled to be held at the Hammondsport Central School on Saturday, June 6, reports the chairman of the day's arrangements, Margaret Rosette.

Mrs. Blanche Stuart Scott of Hornell, first woman ever taught by Glenn H. Curtiss, will speak on the early days of aviation in Hammondsport.

The jamboree will include young historians from 11 area schools including Alexander, Arcade, Arkport, Batavia, Dansville, Geneseo, LeRoy, Penn Yan, Perry, Prattsburg and Hammondsport.

Mayor Erwin C. Young will greet the visitors as will Elementary School Principal Louis J Natale.
 
Highlight of the morning assembly will be the presentation of the keys to the Glenn Curtiss House in Hammondsport to the Hammondsport Yorker club, the "Glenn Curtiss Chapter," Presentation will be made by C. Arthur Niver, president of the Hammondsport Board of Education who is making presentation of the house, located on school property. The local junior historians plan to renovate the house into that of the period in which Curtiss lived in it, the early 1900's.

John Day of Batavia, president of the Genesee Valley Council, will preside at the business meeting and reports will be given by the secretary, the historian and the individual chapters.

J. Allan Mays of the Taylor Wine Company will speak to the group on grape culture and the wine industry.

Following luncheon short tours around the area will be taken; particularly pointing out highspots in Curtiss' life.

Officers of the group include Day, Sally Michaels, Geneseo, vice presidents; Ann Steele, Geneseo, recording secretary; Mary Lou Davis, Batavia, corresponding secretary; Allen Lindsey, LeRoy, treasurer; and Beverly Mingle, Alexander, historian.

Mrs. Joyce Bennett of Rochester accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Orlena Neu, attended a variety shower for Miss Alberta Neu in Avoca Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Mitchell and children of Canisteo, Alfred Mitchell of North Cohocton spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Burley.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clancy and daughter, Mary, were callers on Mr. and Mrs. John Mehlenbacher Saturday.

Mrs. Orlena Neu was in Wayland Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Von Hagen spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Speers near Lima.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Von Hagen called at the home of Edward Kiefer in Dansville Wednesday.

Mrs. Rose Von Hagen attended a variety shower for Miss Alberta Neu in Avoca Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Smith and son from Lockport spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. Otis Rouse were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Towner on the Glen Ave. high road Tuesday evening.

Jessie Robinson from Penn and Miss Latita Mead of Hornell were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brokaw Sunday.
