TRAVEL BY AIR TODAY.

My Friends: A week ago I spoke to you about the safety of traveling by air. I was unable to finish my talk on the subject in the time alloted to me, but even so, the amount of mail which I have received asking me to continue on the subject, has urged me to prepare this talk on what is happening along the airlines of the United States.

In my last talk, I just touched upon the way an army of experts go over every plane upon landing, or before it takes off. Take for instance the rules and regulations of the Eastern Air Lines.... and they are about the same as the rules which govern the flying of the ships of the Transcontinental and Western Airlines. Pan American Lines, The American Airlines and other companies which cover continental United States, the Pacific Ocean, South America and Canada as well as Mexico. 

Whittling operating costs to a minimum and insuring against motor or airplane failure. The airlines have instituted a revised system of maintenance gained through the accumulated experience of many years of operating history and records of the Bureau of Air Commerce. 

There are five major and fourteen minor checks that take place from zero hours up to 600 hours. Then the entire procedure is started over again, according to Leslie Frazeur, one of the Nation's most famous of maintenance experts.
