State of Virginia
Fairfax County, to wit:

This day, M. Dulaney Ball personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid, & made oath that, in the fall of 1860, he sold to F.H. Janney, of the said County, the wood standing on a portion of his land, near Lewinsville, in said County; that the said F.H. Janney paid him for the said wood, but that he had not removed it from the land in the summer of 1861; — & he believes that the said wood was cut & used by the U.S. authorities. & that the said F.H. Janney did not get possession of it. - & further that the loss to the said F.H. Janney mounted to at least sixty (60.) cords of good wood.

    Given under my hand ^[[insertion]] and seal [[/insertion]] this 16th day of October, 1865.

I William M. Fitzbergh Clerk of the County Court of Fairfax County, in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Job Hamphurst who genuine signature appears to the above certificate was at the time of Subscribing the same an acting Justice duly commissioned and qualified and that full faith and credit are due to all his acts as such.
