Bob arrived on time - we had about 10 minute wait for him after stowing our stuff. All my suitcase & chinese bag went thru X-ray! Out on street we inquired at kiosk on how to get to M.d.R. (which is almost beside the airport). Take an airp. shuttle, 456, ask for a transfer to a 220 bus. We waited & waited; tried to negotiate w. a taxi but found a long line for that, then caught the bus. It was 85c, exact change. That took us to edge of airport; the 220 bus moseyed all around obscure gates at airport (eg World airways) and in & out - picked up no one & out toward M.D.R. The driver offered to let us out anywhere, pick us up anywhere we hailed him. No stops. We got off at the Marina & found row of waterfront shops & restaurants. White boats. Blue, Red, yellow, natural wood shops. Lovely. Brilliant sun. I tried to see a Calif. gull - no luck. Lots of Westerns, Heermans & white ones, large & small (I did not have my N.Am book), forsters terns, 3 or 4 w. grebes, Brown pelicans, 1 Loon.

Lunch at a fish restaurant. Broiled sole, snapper. ^[[Shopped: Indian scarf & sweat pants.]] Back by bus to pickup tickets & travel order ~ 5:00.

The Internat. counter still closed; but ~ 5:30 a black girl came by to set up a USARP sign. We converged on her & she gave us our tickets & travel orders.
Surprise: the tickets are not Cat. Z (half price); they are Cat. Y. >$1300!

Once we had tickets in hand we retrieved all our baggage from lockers & checked in. We all asked for aisle seats. Went to bar for beer & orange juice. I called Tom, Ghis called Bob - we took turns watching things & going out to change money, go to restrooms etc.

The LA airport must be full of honest people - I abandoned my little plastic bag w new sweat pants on bench when we saw the USARP Rep. But it was still there 20 min later.
