they won't let them use the latrines -- and they won't build other facilities. The toilet at sick bay must be the cleanest, & pleasantest in Antarctica. They tend to be elevated like thrones; that one and the one in Scott Base. After awhile the shuttle came and we all got seated. It was driven by a personable & vital woman of indeterminate age, who, it seems, is here w her husband and son -- all work at the field. The ride to Scott base was lovely. All white, a v. light snow in air and an avenue of flags. Green to the left, orange-red to the right, to mark the road. Enchanting picture. I tried a photo from car but can only imagine how it will turn out. -- At Scott base our shuttle backed up to the rear of another one and we shifted bags and seats for the Scott-MCM link. That trip was great!

After dinner went to ships' store to look at [[?]]. They have none. Examined catalog. They have at least 2 categories of items. Standard things -- cameras, furnishings, dishes etc. at a small discount, and special expensive things at terrific discounts. Things that can be ordered for delivery here but not at home. I'm interested in a Vivitor 30-202 zoom for $146. Bought 4 more film mailers.

When I opened it, it had a new liner on top just inside the drawstring. I decided it would be O.K. Considered 3 times whether to pull out the bag & then didn't. Dreaded putting it back. Ghislaine protested the need to use it; Bob called it a dinosaur of camera, I urged us to take it out & learn how to use it today. We did -- I love it. And will carry it to Granite H. to photog. the hut.

We had crampons fitted to our Bunny Boots for possible landing on the ice.

I wrote sev. letters (mailed 2 films yesterday & sent 6 stubs to Zam plus my LA. Holiday Inn bill). Gh. mailed a box leaving today.

I also, for 1st time in much trying got all the green side of my cube done. Now what?

Washed a pair of long Johns and my CFA sweatshirt, put the in dryer. Found I had lost my navy taffeta wind pants. Hunted thru bags & under bed - finally checked the Thiel Lab & there they were in Zellers bookcase where I put them at the party.

Went to the store w. my camera to try the zoom lens. I like it. However, Dave, the photographer at
