schedule. Thanking him, I went back to knock on Bob's door. He said "What?" and I gave him our news. 2:00, unless there is a shortage of pilots.

At 8:25 I went to lounge & found 4 people waiting for [[strikethrough]] them [[/strikethrough]] ^[[me]]. Hal, Magaret, an Indian (who knows me) and the student. We talked for over an hour. Granite H; Nichols & his pilfering of a case of Scott's cocoa & serving it in lab same afternoon; Margaret Bradshaw protesting Hal's collecting of fossils at coroface (?) N. Meteorites & terrestrial ages; dry valleys. Hal drew me a section (see end paper) of the rocks around Man Harl Bay. The coal & wood in Peninsula, & I should look for [[glossoftin?]] in shales there!

We were scheduled, but we did not fly. Scrubbed because of pilots, tired, or too few, or something. Had lunch w. the Barns and others. Bob came by and asked me to go climb Obs. Hill. It is a gorgeous, clear blue day so I went -- carrying camera, natural & telephoto lenses & bird glasses.

Not a bad hike at all -- good views of glacier in Royal Society Range. But clouds coming in. Then we walked on to Scott Base to look at seals on the sea ice. They have no rules against it & Christina did it yesterday -- could go up & touch seals. But we found the snow too mushy, even for Bob's Bunny Boots -- much less for my leathers. He tried following out a flag line but found pools of water. We will await seals, penguins & whales at McM when we come back in January.

Decided to shuttle home & [[underlined]] just [[/underlined]] made it -- had to run & flag it down as it started away.

Inquired about sending a Night Letter to Dorset for Xmas. Told I could do it any time -- office open 24 hours. Back home had a beer & read Robert Ruark until suppertime. Sat w. U. of Maine crew, Bob, Christina.

Will have an early start tomorrow so to bed. Tried to send telegram - 50 words - at 9:45 PM but the clerk not there. One radio man took it on himself to do it in A.M. Wouldn't take my $5.00 -- to be paid when I get back in Jan. because change is coming back. (!) Offered
