[[underlined]] December 27, Sunday [[/underlined]] Wind. Blowing hard. We didn't even try to get up & make breakfast until nearly 8:15. No expectation of going out. Anyway, nothing could be more delightful than the coziness of my Karaham sleeping bag. Roused out after eating & cleaning up & went to toilet tent ~ 10:15. John came over to our tent & said we might go out after lunch. The wind is still persistent but sun high & bright; T not too cold. Went back deep into sleeping bag to luxuriate and day dream. It was nearly 12:45 when Gh came to stay. We got up & wind was a little less ferocious. Beautiful, bright, cold. About 2:15 we all went out for what was described as a short trip to layin some flag to orient meteorite finds. It was that. We climbed the western slope & added flag lines so as to actually map (relatively) the sites of our finds this year. I would stand at a flag while John sited on it - then move to next. Later we did a wide traverse over blue ice and drew an absolute blank -- no meteorites. Each nearer to the lanaum[?] field we began to find 1 or 2 stones. Gh found one; then I found one - so weathered we had to wonder. Bob doesn't think it is one. Later, after fair lunch I disgraced myself by claiming beautiful meteorite under a grid flag. Bob went [[end page]] [[start page]] back w. me to check it & surely was not a meteorite at all- Caution - caution -- It was a clear, beautiful day so we worked late. Collected 7 of the flagged meteorites -- some only pea size. Most berry-size. Came home about 6:45- v. late dinner -- cooked the steak too long. Bed again at 11:15 after long talk: my whole career and Gh's problems with her mother. [[underlined]] Monday, December 28 [[/underlined]] Awake at 7:00 to absolute stillness -- not even a breeze and sun coming through tent. I waited until ~ 7:30 & awakened Ghislaine -- it could be a long working day. We found our food box in a state of imbalance. No [[underlined]] oatmeal [[/underlined]], for example. We had our leftover vienna sausage with bread & coffee -- not much for a long day. Took cheese for lunch plus our usual gorp, chocolate, and, this time, prunes. When we heard the generator going we knew it was a working day w. more gravity surveys. I asked John, once we were out, & he said we were off to Carapace Nunatak -- a 40 mile day. He & Bob had raided Cassidy's fried chicken parts for lunch. Gh & I did so too. It was a stunning morning. Bright & still. We took off about 9:45 after Bob's generator did its duty. Headed west to the high ice fields where John found a meteorite & we collected it. He left a flag for future tie-in to a network.
