John came to the tent & called "Good morning" at 9:00. He said the sky was thick, it was snowing & no helo would bring Bill here today. We would go out collecting, however. Had we had breakfast yet? No, we said we just woke up. John must have forgotten our deal by which he would call on us w. 1 1/2 hours get-ready time. In any case he went off to map in his flags while Bob waited for us. I was 1st out to the privy tent & he was sitting on his snowmobile. I asked: "Waiting for something?" "Yes, waiting for you girls to be ready." I explained our 1 1/2 hour deal & he said he never heard of it. ""Revellie" is 8:00." he said. The Revellie has to sound at 8. We are now so used to all the procedures that we only took 1 hour to get out --and w. no hassle. It was an overcast day -- the sun scarcely visible thru wooly clouds. Not a breath of air stirring. Rather warm. Almost whiteout in the sense that no shadows were cast anywhere and so the snow & ice melded into a hazy white. There were many surprises crossing the sastrugi. You couldn't see the humps & hollows. Some snow mounds loomed huge but were ~ flat; others looked insignificant but were fierce. Any black rocks stood out for a good way.

We had a v. good collecting day. My luck was better yesterday & Ghislaine's today, but we all found meteorites & had that great thrill of recognition. John found one that looked velvety & may [[strikethrough]] must [[/strikethrough]] be a carbonaceous chondrite. We collected it in al. foil just in case. Spent >6 hrs sweeping the ice beneath the monocline. Snowing all the time, very gently. Total in [[??]]: 220 !

We have 2 weeks left. Bill still is not here. We discussed the best use of our time. To stay here clearly. There are many more acres of ice in the Allan Hills, and I am more enthusiastic than before about getting at it. Finally I see that I will hold out -- can do it, enjoy doing it, am holding my own. It's still a mild night in the Allan Hills ~ 9:00 P.M.

[[underlined]] Thursday, January 7 [[/underlined]] Two weeks here; two weeks to go.

I was awake about 1:15 AM & stayed awake some time. At 1:55 I heard the 1st flapping of a rising wind. After a long stillness it heralded a change. If Bill were ever to get out here, the wind must sweep the sky clear. That is what happened. About 9:10 we got a call from John. He said Cassidy was arriving in ~ an hour & a half and we would have to consider what to retro in a second helo flight in the P.M. We got
