After finishing that job we went down slope to an icefield to the north ~ 5 miles from Battlements Nunatak. We fanned out and searched for meteorite -- reconnaissance style. We rode & rode, over great stretches of ice & snow, w no results. Bill pulled up to John & Bob joined them. I started for the same place when there it was -- a dark object several OO feet to my right. As I circled toward it I thought for a moment it might be a shadow - but it became more and more substantial - a beautiful meteorite half covered with crust, about the size of a smallish apple. I waited out the conference until John finally noticed me & the meteorite wave. He came streaking toward me & others followed. When he arrived and saw the meteorite John said, "You found this one just in time, Bill was just explaining to me why he thinks there are no meteorites here."
I decided this was the stone on which to get a sequence-of-collections photos. Took a

series of beauties, I hope. Big black stone, collection bag - scissors - teflon - tape -- everything except the big clumsy [[?Hassleblod]] procedure.
Then, of course, we kept on sweeping the area & Bill found another stone ~ the same size. Wherever there has been no searching, the meteorites are bigger.
Earlier in the day I had an experience that shows how tricky meteorite - spotting con be. At one of the flags on the plateau there was one meteorite and a short distance away Gh had found another. The flag was thought adequate to mark both stones. When we returned there a few days ago we all searched and could not locate it. Ghirlaine herself was there and remembered being within talking distance of John as he flagged the 1st one. But she could not find it again, This time I was to measure the distance to the flag and search for the meteorite. I could not find it. Returned to John & gave him the distance, he asked for the flag number. Had not told me he wanted it so I went back to check it. He had to leave the flag there as he waved come back sometime & make a [[underline]]Real[[/underline]] search As I swerved [[strikethrough]]past[[/strikethrough]] out toward the flag I spotted a small meteorite -- I didn't think to mark it -- continued to flag
