[[underlined]] Friday, January 15 [[/underlined]]

I "awoke" ~ 7:20 and decided to stir. Before radio time I had to get the message to Bill that I must be retrograded. We had been waiting since wed. for a helo to bring in Ian Willins & today was a very likely time.

Gh got up & I told her my condition She went to talk w John; said "Knock-Knock" outside their tent where both were still sleeping - until she heard Bob say "It is ten to eight."

The message came back in half an hour that the helo was coming today about 10:30. It would bring Ian in and take me out. After coffee and oatmeal I began packing -- w. much help from Ghislaine. First, she emptied out all my things from my snowmobile. My camera was still on the seat; she put it in my bag. She brought my orange bag out of the privacy tent & crammed in things I shoved out of the tent. Soon everything was in -- somewhere or other & I had to go out to the privy. I crawled out of the tent & Gh tried to help me "walk" along w. Bill. I tried a shovel as a crutch -- nothing

worked well. John said "Why not just carry her". He came over w his strong arms & simply picked me up & deposited me at entrance to privy. I clumsily performed -- w. real difficulty and, at the end, collapsed the frame under me.

Luckily only heaps of paper were directly under me. Crawled out the entrance again & John picked me up. Then he put me on the big box outside my tent. There I sat in the sun. Bill brought me my parka & put it on me. I wore one Bunny Boot (rt. foot) and [[strikethrough]] ane [[/strikethrough]] one pair of mukluk booties (left foot).

I asked John to write his address in their books; promised to send him catalogues, thanked him for his leadership, "pleasant & unflappable style" which made the season such a success. I also offered to write any letters of recommendation for him that he might wish.

I finished some last-minute sorting out. Gh took down my SAO flag for me and wrapped my big glossopteric specimen in it. Bill took a group picture. Felicitations were exchanged. Bill told me not to go to great lengths to save money in L.A on my supersaver ticket -- the contract would pay full fare.
