I slept reasonably well. Few positions were very comfortable. However, the night attendant bound on the cold bag with elastic tape so it wouldn't keep falling off.

About 7 a.m. I awoke w. the bag at body T. So I took it off. ~ 7:30 an attendant asked what I wanted for breakfast. I decided to break a 22-day oatmeal routine and have an egg -- scrambled; plus bacon or whatever, toast, & coffee with fruit of any kind.

Pretty soon it came: it looked like eggs, grapes & an apple, but [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] ^[[there]] was bacon under the grapes, also there was a peach. No toast or bread of any kind. Nevertheless, it was plenty. They bring no napkin. Service is both friendly and indifferent -- attention span seem very short. govt. care.

3 weeks. Surprisingly my short, v. straight & flat hair came up w [[strikethrough]] wolly [[/strikethrough]] wooly curls once wet & washed. I just let it dry as I sat up in bed.

Fortunately, I took care of this problem myself -- it is my problem & mine only. Soon afterward the doctor came in -- noted the swelling was down & ordered a "light walking cast" be put on. Two medics did so. It was hot then cool. It is there to protect them as much as to protect my leg. I probably could leave here but the cast will need 1-2 days to harden & I could see no sense in going anywhere else. The doctor thought that was just fine. He gave my x-rays & the technician pointed out the break.

Lunch: ground & pressed meat, mashed pot. green beans, corn, jello w fruit, a roll.

In the early p.m. I went to telephone; called Berg Ctr. to ask for Grace. She would call back, they said. I called the chalet to see who is in town: Denton, home; Barns, in field; Norton, gone; Christina, here; Faure, here. I also asked for the identity of the nice Communication man who sent my Class E message to Dorset.

Karen came over later w 6 pages of news -- snow & cold in America, a plane (Air Florida)
