Wellman's New Polar Air Ship.
Mr. Walter Wellman, the famous explorer, is now exhibiting at the Gallerie des Machines-- a relic of the last exhibition--the enormous airship which he has built for his north polar trip. The balloon is the largest ever constructed, and has the largest lift capacity.
It has been brought back from Spitzbergen to be lengthened and tested before the perilous voyage is undertaken. Large crowds of people are wending their way to the Champ de Mars to see the famous traveler's airship, which is to remain inflated in its present position in order to test the resistance of material and durability of the gas.

Plans Army Balloon Tests
General Allen expects the develop an unsurpassed Corps of Aeronauts.
Washington, Feb. 6-- General Allen, chief signal officer of the army, has been making preparations for extensive experiments with balloons, airships, an aeroplanes, with the view to settling upon some system of aerial navigation for use in operations of the army either in times of peace or war. Recently there arrived in this country from France a balloon of a type used by the French army, which was purchased by the signal corps in order that its merits might be tested in competition with balloons of American make, while in New York there is being constructed an immense balloon in which it is proposed that the men of the corps shall make their trial ascents.
It is the intention to conduct the experiments at Fort Omaha, just outside of Omaha, and $50,000 has been allotted for fitting up the fort with all the necessary appliances. General Allen will be prepared to conduct experiments with every conceivable kind of machine offered, but the department under no circumstances will purchase plans of balloons or machines not put to practical test.
General Allen believes this country is far ahead of any other in the matter of flying machines. Already, he has said, there have been developed some which will furnish surprise. The balloon corps of the French army numbers at least six hundred men, all expert aeronauts, and it is expected by the department that before long the American army will have an equipment superior to that of any other army in the world. Just how soon the experiments will begin is not known, but General Allen purposes to lose no time in completing his plant, and he hopes that before many months the tests will be under way.

The Flying Machine
A sure-enough one ready to do business found in Ohio
"We will make no exhibition test to our flying machine, nor will we permit an examination of it. For our purposes neither is necessary, as those with whom we are in negotiation now for its purchase are already satisfied that it does all we claim for it. Out only market must be a powerful government, and publicity would only serve to defeat our purpose to make such a sale. We do not have to have the newspapers tell us of our success, for we know, and those most important to us know, that we have accomplished all we claim to have done.
This is the final answer of the Wright brothers. of Dayton, O., the those who may be led to question the validity of their claims by reason of their secrecy. For more than a year they have made no [[remaining cutoff]]
