enforced fall. As the massive bag and basket and with anchor hanging from a long rope journeyed over he clubhouse there appeared to be a question whether or not the aeronauts would light on land or water.

The spectators were left in doubt, as the balloon disappeared, still traveling rapidly toward the coast. The meadows did not afford ideal conditions for landing, as the anchor dragged over the smooth ground for considerable distance. It hooked finally in a tree and as the balloon was held captive the escape valve was opened wide. Mr. Hawley was first to slide down a rope to the ground and hauled down the big basket and Mr. Chandler. Both balloonists were without a scratch and when men who had been following them afoot reached the balloon they found both at work packing up the instruments and movables for shipment back to Philadelphia.
