5. WHAT SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS HAVE YOU COMMENCED, CONTINUED, OR COMPLETED, UPON THE MATERIAL UNDER YOUR CARE, DURING THE YEAR.


A report upon the Commander Id. fishes collected by Dr. Stejneger and N. Grebnitski, and a report upon Kamchatkan and Japanese fishes collected by N. Grebnitski, was prepared by the Honorary and Assistant Curators.

In January, 1896, the Asst. Curator in company with B.W. Ewermann & W.A. Wilcox of the U.S. Fish Commission made an investigation of the fish and fisheries of the Indian River, Florida.

A report to the U.S. Senate upon this investigation has been made.

A Report upon the fishes collected in South American waters by the Str. Albatross, in 1887-8, is in course of preparation by the Hon. Curator - assisted by the Assistant Curator.
