Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Headquarters Ass't Commissioner, District Columbia,
Washington, July 12th 1866.

Bvt. Major J.M. Brown
A.Q.M.

Major
The Assistant Commissioner directs that hereafter you pay the employees at the Government Farms, Saint Mary's County, regularly once in two months.

This is necessary for the reason that many of them are being and will be discharged and in order that those who find homes elsewhere may not be detained at the Farms waiting for pay that may be due them.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servant
Wm. W. Rogers
Bvt Lt Col and A.A.A.G.
