Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
Washington D.C. 1st Aug 1866

Col. W W. Rogers
A.A.G.

Sir
I have the honor to inform you that the carpenters having in charge this building of the School house Cor. 17th and M. Sts. tell me that requisite strength cannot be obtained in the foundation of said building by having pillars as calculated by Mr. Kimball; but instead, that a solid wall is necessary.

I have caused to be taken [[the?]] chimneys in the school building; also the soup house Cor 14th & M. Sts: also one chimney from building Cor 24th & F. and in addition to these I calculate that nine thousand bricks will be required.

I hope that there will be no delay in providing the bricks as the Masons will have used up all they have in house by to-morrow (Thurs) night.

I am Sir very respectfully
Your Obt Servt
S. Dore
Acting Supt of Schools
