both arms. Both Ruth & Landau had interesting anecdotes to tell about the customs of the country. Men & women bathe together. In the clubs, everywhere, the toilets are used by both men & women & it is a familiar sight for the woman to pass the man while in the act. 

In some night clubs there is a floor empty for the purpose of putting up guests who want to remain & sleep with each other. They simply distribute mattresses on the floor & those who wish to remain, carry on, indifferent to the others present. The Japanese woman is brought up to serve & please the man. In restaurants, the man is served first, then the woman. She also is addressed as Sir. Apropos the people one meets, I don't want to forget Mr. Julien Lou, a Chinese Agriculturalist from the Philipines & Mr. John Daniel of the British Army stationed in Korea with whom I had pleasant conversation on the bus tour this afternoon.

9 A.M.

Up at 7.30 & am waiting for the Hacohens. I wonder whether the outing will be called off because of this miserable rain & damp weather. It has been like this ever since I arrived & I am hoping I don't develope a heavy cold before leaving for Hong Kong.

Had breakfast in my room & wrote a 4 page letter home. Landau called to invite Ruth & myself to the Kokusai Theatre at 3 o'clock - to a show call 'Autumn Dance.' It is a theater similar to our Radio City at home with a Shokiku Girls' Revue Troupe of 300 girls between 17 & 18 yrs of age. The settings are good & colorful - the girls well trained - even the orchestra is not bad. They also give something authentic in [[?]] dancing as well. What is of particular interest is that the male roles are all played by women in mens costume traditional & modern. There were about ten with four featured male impersonators & who, incidentally, are the stars of the
