[[strikethrough]] March 21 [[/strikethrough]] Visited Wat Po, oldest temple in Bangkok, which was built to house the colossal statue of the reclining Buddha, made of brick & stone, covered with layer of hardened sugar cane, lacquered black & then covered with layers of gold leaf. The buildings surrounding the Temple have many so called Marco Polos - in homage to his memory, sculpted in Chinese fashion like the war lords & royal advisors but with top hats (amusing). The National Museum was a pleasant surprise. Many treasures, all well catalogued. Also - fine collection old Siamese musical instruments, royal thrones, modes of conveyance, costumes, nature crafts of the country, etc. Wat Sudat - carved teakwood doors, large ancient brass Budha.
