The Zirinskys & the Citron family in Hong Kong - although living well - rich bourgeois (165. American dollars for apts, diamonds, etc) are all looking forward to coming to America.

How long can this last? We must get out!

Dec. 1-

Shopped this morning for dolls for little Marion & Louisa. Expensive - there is a high tariff on toys & many other items - materials, drugs, etc. Three & four times American prices.

Tour in the afternoon to the Marble Temple, Wat Benjamabopits [[Benchamabophit]] - of imported Italian marble. This will last. Their other buildings are [[strikethrough]] made of [[/strikethrough]] covered with poor quality plaster which the rains wreak havoc with.

Visited Wat Po, oldest temple in Bangkok, which was built to house the colossal statue of the reclining Buddha, made of brick & stone, covered with layer of hardened sugar cane, lacquered black & then covered with layers of gold leaf.

The buildings surrounding the Temple have many so called Marco Polos - in homage to his memory, sculpted in Chinese fashion like the war lords & royal advisors but with top hats (amusing).

The National Museum was a pleasant surprise. Many treasures, all well catalogued.

Also - fine collection old Siamese musical instruments, royal thrones, modes of conveyance, costumes, nature crafts of the country, etc.

Wat Sudat - carved teakwood doors, large ancient brass Budha.
