is not interested in the effort - in what one seeks & attempts but only in what one discovers & finds (I always trembled at the thought it was my fate only to seek and not to be one of the rare few blessed to find)

Arrived Rangoon 6.30 P.M. Louis, Dorothy & the Children at the airport to meet me. Felt like coming home.

Nice old house - large, spacious rooms, very comfortably furnished. Servants all seem gentle, hospitable. Nice Garden for the children to play in & view from my window.

Hacohens for dinner. Good to see them again. Louis played several records for us. Has bought a lovely library of music & finds great relaxation enjoying them. Spent -500.- on records before they left the States.

Quiet day & evening with the children. Visited the Bazaar & some shops for material to have some blouses made.

Shopped for a silver wedding gift with Dorothy & saw the native craftsmen at work on carving Ivory & hammering on silver. It takes two men each working three weeks to complete a piece of Ivory with intricate, delicate design which sells for some 350- or sixty-five Am. dollars.

Average life age expectancy -29- Drove through the city. The market places unusually interesting. The native costume & different races - many Hindus & Indians make them more colorful than any people in the
