Spent the entire day, from early morning till dinner time addressing & writing some 50 cards to friends. It is probably the one time I shall write them en masse.

Eve. Dinner party in honor of Jerry Alter's birthday. He is a nice young man of 35, pleasant, good looking, dark, Semitic face. World Bank Mission Economist.

Present - Mr. Perkins, engineer who is leaving for the States, tomorrow; Doesn't like the East, feels uneasy in the midst of the squalor & dirt. One has only to look at his thin cut, thin blooded features & feel his pale handshake to know why.

Gertrude & Irv. Sidorov (Swerdlow) young, Jewish Amer. couple - sweet, simple, with 2 young children. They get up at dawn to walk 4 miles around the lake however. May join them

on Sunday the 26th. Worried about their children, here. Not enough playmates their own ages, His boy of eleven needs to feel roots - needs his 'home gang' in Sidorov's opinion.

Liked most of all Julien & Ellen Licht. He is an engineer from Brussels. Sandy hair, blue eyes, gentle look, voice & manner. She, an American suit & textile designer who worked for Lord & Taylor with name of Ellen Brook - for Glenhurst firm. Forceful, intelligent, capable looking - not handsome or pretty but sympathetic in an affirmative way.

They live in Brussels, where Julien says, it rains all but 10 days of the year. To escape this depressing weather everyone goes to Paris for the week end (1 hour & 1/2 by train) She works 6 months of year as fashion consultant in Dublin & he commutes week-ends - 1 hr. to London & then 1 1/2 hrs. to Dublin.
