There is the Brigade, the Dept. of Technical & Vocational Education; Engineering Dept - Health & Welfare Dept. producing skilled & semi-skilled artisans in Carpentry, joinery, woodworking, bricklaying & masonry, Blacksmithing, benchwork, Foundry, Electric & gas welding, Electrical wiring & workshop practice, General Engineering, Radio & Auto Repairs, Sheetmetal work & plumbing. Motor mechanics, drafting, surveying & road making. The vocational education teaches printing, book-binding, toy making, house painting, interior decoration, dyeing & textile printing leather work & tanning, photography, Ivory, wood, silver carving, weaving, hosiery work, poultry farming, cottage industries for women, ceramics,

The men sign up (ages 18-35) - (a bond) for two years - & remain without coercion. The course in training is elementary & advanced - each lasting six months, 6 hours daily.

An intervening period of 6 months lies between the elementary & advanced stage of instruction during which time the trainees are employed in rapid reconstruction of country. The men receive a stipend & salary while learning. The batchelors eat in a common dining hall, the married men are provided with houses for their families & live with them. The govt. has put up a large school & hospital for the community children, as well.

During the past two years - the Rehabilitation Brigade has worked on construction of airstrip at Hmawbi, Refugee camps, Quarters at Mass Education Centers, Water Resevoir, Prome Road. Military Barracks, roads, etc.
