204 Sunday, Jan. 16th [[strikethrough]] July 22 [[/strikethrough]] they are all the first day or the second day "to the Sabbath" - the Sabbath is the goal toward which time itself moves. The Sabbath is a day of transformation. Man is nature's slave six days a week. But on the seventh day he was to be free of this committment, so that he might catch a glimpse of the freedom which is the essence of God's nature. I liked his interpretation of the auto - which makes the prohibition against riding not obsolete but all the more compelling, for the automobile only increases the dynamism of travel. The deeper significance of spending one day within a limited area is that man shall find meaning to his existence where he is - and not where he can escape to. Similarly, too, the prohibition against fire was not with respect to its use but rather with respect to its creation & its creative power. To make the Sabbath symbolic of perfect & inimitable 'being,' the Law did not permit the use on the Sabbath of 205 Sunday, Jan. 16th [[strikethrough]] July 23 [[/strikethrough]] anything that did not exist before the Sabbath. - The human being as part of nature. One feels that here. Like healthy unquestioning animals, they sit in the sun & beneath the trees - a part of the nature surrounding them. Like trees themselves, the children, the flowers. To come back to the thought of the Sabbath. When I think of mama & her beautiful, innocent, childlike soul - her dedication to the spiritual quest of man - and papa as well - his ideals - every day is & was Shabbos - at home.
