Spent the entire day with the children. Both have not been too well, Marion with tonsilitis & now baby Louisa, with worms & a cold.

Played, told stories, drew pictures. Late afternoon, Phil Hauser to visit. Eve - Wonderful Chinese dinner with Andre Nicoletti. He drives like a mad man - 80 mile [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] in his little Italian car. Raced all over the town - & it is a wonder with all the dogs on the road, too lazy to move at times - that he did not crash into a tree.

Wednesday - Feb. 9 -

AM & PM. Reworked head on U Nu's portrait.

5 P.M - Fritz Shoemacher, advisory economist on coal from England to the govt. & United Nations.

Was formerly writer for the Times, The Observer, Manchester Guardian, etc -

Brilliant, interesting mind - reaches out to Astrology, Egyptology, Astronomy, cultures, etc.

Yesterday, I asked whether he would like to come along, on Nyo Mya's invitation to see an authentic Pwl in a rural village celebrating a young boy's entrance into the monastery (whereby his parents gain merit.)

He accepted & came today at 5. Nyo Mya (like all newspaper men was an hour late, explaining that the rest of the company had asked him to make it for 6 o'clock instead.

During this hour of waiting Louis, Shoemacher & I had quite a talk about their sons. Adam & the two Shoemacher lads, John 15, and Christian, 18. His description of the older boy reminded us of Adam a good deal, particularly the independence of thought, impatience, boredom, lack of consideration
