Tuesday, March 1 -

An emotionally troubled day. 8.30 AM - Went to say farewell at the boat to the Hla Maungs. Lucy was hiding her tears behind her dark glasses - while saying goodbye to their friends. I, too, was moved, as tho I myself were making my goodbyes - & was also in tears. The mood lasted throughout the day.

Came home to work on Dorothy's portrait - & Mary's. Will start on U Nu on Thursday - & hope to have it in shape by Sunday.

March 1 -
Memoranda 

invited to the Hacohens for dinner. I brought them the drawing I had made of them both. Bob Nathan, Herbert Passes (Tokyo) & Karen of Israel were there. Interesting story on China & anecdotes by David which lasted all through the dinner. He is a man of tremendous charm & vitality. At table, he raised his wine glass, specially to me - L'Chayim, Anna.' Bracha told me, the gift they had bought for me in China (a painting of a woman) on silk which resembles me) will be here next week. I love them both.

The one trouble here - is little Louisa's illness. The doctor's diagnosis is a touch of jaundice (slight infection of liver) Prescribed diet of no butter, milk etc. Lot of sugar - & plain cooked vegetables. This is one of the hazards of life in the East.
