only on rare occasions, U Nu suggested that from now on he have weekly conferences with him to get direct reports on matters on hand- which pleased Louis greatly. He hadn't expected it. At 4.30 the sitting was over. We had to leave to change & return again for the reception & Pwe that U Nu was giving at 5 for Bob. While we shook hands, the Prime Minister asked whether we had any plans for later in the evening - after the party - because he would like to pose for me again.
  
Of course we took advantage of the offer. The Pwe & garden party was particularly lovely. The embassy people were not asked - Just Bob Nathan - his staff - the American colony

groups. Sandwiches & various Burmese delicacies were served with several kinds of soft drinks. 

When time came for the Pwe to start - people began to seat themselves. U Nu arranged for Bob to sit beside him, Louis & Dorothy & Col. & Helen Pettit. I was charmed & delighted when he came over to me & took my arm, calling me "Anna" - & had me sit next to Bob. The party was a signal honor for Bob - as U Nu has never shown this privilege to any English group or person heretofore. It was a personal tribute to me as well - I feel - his calling me by my first name.

After the Pwe, we broke up the party - U Nu, Bob, myself, Louis & Dorothy had
